February 15, 2004 - 11:37 p.m.A-Rod To Yanks? No Thanks!Desperately Seeking ParityI want to go on record here, as a dedicated, die-hard Yankee Fan, as saying that if this trade comes to fruition and The Yankees acquire Alex Rodriguez, I am Officially Disgusted! I can no longer in good faith defend my team against the jealous attacks of rivals, because you know what? Theyre right, theyre absolutely right! We suck, were a bunch of greedy, arrogant bastards, were buying the pennant like spoiled rich brats, its true its true its true!!! Ive stood by my Yankees through thick and thin, I went to games throughout the lean years in the 80s and early to-mid nineties, always rooting, and always enjoyed the hell out of myself, win or lose. I took great pride and comfort in knowing that the backbone of our recent championship teams was comprised of home-grown talent, at least at first. Like who? Bernie, Jeter, Mariano, Pettitte, Posada, Soriano, Ramiro Mendoza, and many more! These guys are/were the heart and soul of many a championship team, all Home Grown! Of course, Steinbrenners deep pockets added more and more spice to the team by way of big-name stars, but they all fit into the team more or less, or else left with or without fanfare. What was left was a hard-working corps of professionals who lived to get the job done! Ahhh, but as Steinbrenner grabs more stars, dismisses more hometown favorites and shells out dollars like a drunk hipster at his first topless bar, it just gets harder and harder to hold my head up with Pride and call myself a Yankee Fan. This whole mess has become one big, lousy joke. What the hell do we need A-Rod for? Nothing against the man, but damn, youre just greedy as hell, George! I would rather see the money spent on Team Balance than some self-centered Ubertalent! Its no secret that Major League Baseball badly needs to be restructured, and Steinbrenner is just rubbing the sports worlds collective face in it, saying in essence Fair-shmare, I want what I want!!! Its disgusting, and I want no more part in it. If this deal goes down, I will not step foot in Yankee Stadium, even if dealt free World Series tickets! My summer baseball fun will now exclusively consist of visits to the plethora of minor league teams in the area. Now that is real baseball!
